Staff Counsel - Real Estate
 
DESCRIPTION
Staff Counsel has the responsibility of delivering quality legal services to the corporate organization, complying with internal procedures, researching statutes and federal regulations, drafting legal documents, providing counsel and assisting in implementing CHA real estate – related initiatives.
 
SUMMARY OF PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Draft leases, purchase and sale agreements, letters of intent, deeds, restrictive covenants, licenses, right of entry agreements for residential and commercial real estate transactions.
• Review purchase and sale agreements, due diligence, review and prepare title objections, survey and environmental releases and closing documents.
• Conduct closings and complete and post-closing documentation and administration.
• Negotiate leases and amendments; Draft correspondence on behalf of CHA relating to claims, defenses and other disputes arising under lease agreements.
• Review Board agenda matters and provide assistance to senior level attorneys as requested.
• Assist with the resolution of property tax exemption/abatement matters and other duties as may be required.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Academic Level: Juris Doctorate Degree
  • Industry Experience: Other industries not listed
 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A Juris Doctorate degree, admission to the Illinois bar and a minimum of 3-5 years job experience as an attorney with commercial and transactional experience. Ideal candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of professionalism and client orientation, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and work independently. Familiarity with zoning and eminent domain processes is a plus.

Salary Range: $80,000 – 85,000
